Bite wounds are a common cause of injury, and dog bites in particular can have a varied presentation, depending on the size of the biting dog relative to its victim. These wounds often become infected and require antimicrobial therapy. Surgical debridement and closure, often with drains in place, is commonly used to manage bite wounds. Bacterial culture, for both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, and sensitivity testing are recommended to determine the most effective antimicrobial therapy.
