Australian Shepherd with mammary mass

Patient undergoes successful surgical resection of the mammary masses.

Additional test results are shown:

• Diagnoses of the tumors based on histopathologic evaluation was:
• Right 3^rd and 4^th glands: solid carcinoma
• Left 4^th gland: complex carcinoma
• Large mass in left 5^th gland: invasive carcinoma with lymphatic carcinomatosis

Because the large mass invaded lymphatic vessels, the patient will be monitored periodically for development of additional masses and metastases.

Consultation with a veterinary oncologist could be informative for the owners. Effectiveness of chemotherapy for canine mammary tumors is controversial.
